A Capital Crime

A Capital Crime

You arrive on scene of a murder scene. The house belongs to Senator Timothy Morgan, and his wife has been murder. You must determine if it is foul play and if so find the clues that point towards a suspect.

This project served as my first major VR endeavor. Up until this project I had only been testing VR using 4.12 before Unreal released its own VR tools and blueprints. With the release of 4.13 I was able to do a more in-depth project. A Capital Crime serves as a diving board, it is in no way technical wonder, but the purpose was to prepare myself for my next Studio class where I am currently producing a more in-depth game experience rather than a narrative experience.

In the first level the point is to really only gather clues and begin to brainstorm who did it. Was it domestic violence or are there other motives at play. By moving around the scene looking and listening to the environment, you can begin to piece some of it together. Not all items are relevant and nor are all comments made by the character.

The letters, papers, and dialogue are all intended to steer the player in the direction of thinking this murder a part of a conspiracy. The Senator it seems was attempting to make a play for political power, but in the effort of writing wrongs. But those in power have stepped in to stop him. You are suppose to leave the level and then later in the game progress to the Senators office and find further clues and research.

Due to the fact that this was a solo project and VR I would have to say that this project is hands down the toughest project I have worked on. The lack of man power to get everything done and getting side tracked because a blueprint or a texture or a model broke made this project an up hill battle. But it was an uphill battle that was well worth the effort and time. I managed to learn a lot about my abilities and my skills in adapting on the fly to the obsticales that popped up.
